The species list for our February outing includes 43 species for the outing with 20 members & visitors attending.

March Outing  – FLAT ROCK, LAKE CHICKIBA and MELDRUM PARK – 13.3.11

Sunday March 13, 2011 TBO met at Flat Rocks for its monthly outing. We proceeded onto Lake Chickiba, Meldrum Park, and finally the North Wall – Ballina.  We were joined by 14 members and 1 guest.  The following birds were seen:

FLAT ROCK 7.45am – 9.15am
Rainbow Bee-eater, Great Cormorant, Little Pied Cormorant, Pied Cormorant, Spangled Drongo, Eastern Reef Egret (dark morph), Red-backed Fairy-wren, Silver Gull, White-faced Heron, Lewin’s Honeyeater, Striped Honeyeater, White-cheeked Honeyeater, Australian White Ibis, Rainbow Lorikeet, White-throated Needletail, Sooty Oystercatcher, Red-necked Stint, Wandering Tattler, Common Tern, Crested Tern, Little Tern, Ruddy Turnstone, Little Wattlebird, Whimbrel, 24 species.

LAKE CHICKIBA 9.25am – 9.40am
Pied Butcherbird, Torresian Crow, Dollarbird, Spotted Dove, Eastern Great Egret, Striped Honeyeater, Australian White Ibis, Sacred Kingfisher, Masked Lapwing, Australian Magpie, Magpie-lark, Noisy Miner,Eastern Osprey, Australasian Pipit, Pacific Golden Plover, Willie Wagtail, Little Wattlebird, 17 species.

MELDRUM PARK 9.45am – 11.40am
Pied Butcherbird, Bar-tailed Godwit, Silver Gull, Australian White Ibis, Brahminy Kite, Masked Lapwing, Rainbow Lorikeet, Scaly-breasted Lorikeet, Australian Magpie, Magpie-lark, Noisy Miner, Eastern Osprey, Aust. Pied Oystercatcher, Australian Pelican, Crested Pigeon, Pacific Golden Plover, Red-capped Plover, Lesser Sand Plover, Red-necked Stint, Welcome Swallow, Whimbrel, 21 species.
TBO meeting held afterwards

NORTH WALL – BALLINA 11.50am – 12.30pm
Great Cormorant, Pied Cormorant, Galah, Silver Gull, White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Crested Tern, Little Tern, Little Wattlebird, 8 species. Many dolphins also sighted at the end of the rock wall.

April Outing – SALLY JACKA’S PROPERTY 10.4.11

Our April outing took us to Sally’s property at Chillingham where 24 members and guests identified 45 species.

Australian Brush-turkey, Satin Bowerbird, Green Catbird, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Torresian Crow, Fan-tailed Cuckoo, Shining Bronze-Cuckoo, Brown Cuckoo-Dove, Pied Currawong, Bar-shouldered Dove, Spangled Drongo, Grey Fantail, Rufous Fantail, Red-browed Finch, Leaden Flycatcher, Restless Flycatcher, Noisy Friarbird, Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove, Brown Honeyeater, Lewin’s Honeyeater, Scarlet Honeyeater, Australian King-Parrot, Australian Logrunner, Australian Magpie, Magpie-lark, Noisy Miner, Black-faced Monarch, Spectacled Monarch, Olive-backed Oriole, Striated Pardalote, Topknot Pigeon, Wonga Pigeon, Paradise Riflebird, Eastern Yellow Robin, Eastern Rosella, Large-billed Scrubwren, White-browed Scrubwren, Grey Shrike-thrush, Little Shrike-thrush, Silvereye, Welcome Swallow, Brown Thornbill, Willie Wagtail, Eastern Whipbird, Golden Whistler.

May Outing – Wychwood Forest Escape 8.5.11

Our May outing took us to the Wychwood Forest Escape along the Urliup Road where 23 members identified 26 species.

Satin Bowerbird, Torresian Crow, Shining Bronze-Cuckoo, Brown Cuckoo-Dove, Pied Currawong, Emerald Dove, Grey Fantail, Rufous Fantail, Red-browed Finch, Lewin’s Honeyeater, Laughing Kookaburra, Rainbow Lorikeet, Australian Magpie, Spotted Pardalote, Topknot Pigeon, White-headed Pigeon, Wonga Pigeon, Eastern Yellow Robin, Large-billed Scrubwren, White-browed Scrubwren, Grey Shrike-thrush, Silvereye, Brown Thornbill, White-throated Treecreeper, Eastern Whipbird, Golden Whistler.

June Outing-  This outing was cancelled due to rain.

July Outing  Bird Count, Mt Nardi,  10 July 2011
