February 10 : ALTERNATE LOCATION FROM CALENDAR: Terranora Broadwater, Tweed Heads (added 6-02-13)
Proceeding from the north or south on the Pacific Hiway exit at Kennedy Drive. Proceed west along Kennedy Drive, for approximately 1.7 km and then turn into Gollan Drive. Proceed 700 m turn into the Seagulls Club and park at the back along the Broadwater.
An alternate location has been set for Sunday’s outing. Please meet us at the back parking lot of the Seagulls Club, Gollan Drive Tweed Heads. We will walk along Terranora Broadwater. Don’t forget we will be meeting afterwards to discuss joining Birdlife Australia. Please vote by email if you are not planning to come.

March 10: Wader watching in Ballina
Take the Pacific Highway south to Ross Lane (access to Lennox Head). Take Ross Lane to its intersection with the Byron Bay Road, turn south and travel on the Coast Road through Lennox Head and Skennars Head. Flat Rock is signposted to the east; go to the parking area at the end of the road. Driving time: around 1 hr 15mins from Murwillumbah.

April 14: Bilambil Creek revegetation site
This site is just north of Bilambil Village and is on the southern side of Bilambil Rd next to the primary school. Park on the grassy area outside the Sportsfield fence; the walk is over the paddock on the opposite side of the road. Enter through gate and go to creek line.
May 12: Elanora wetlands, Tallebudgera Creek.
The wetland walk surrounds the Elanora Sewage Treatment Plant. There are several ways to access the site:
- · From the Pacific Motorway take Exit 92 to the east, then Townson Ave to the north and continue to its intersection with Tallebudgera Drive. Turn west and continue to the end of the road and park underneath the Motorway.
- · Alternatively, take Exit 89 from the Motorway, then turn south onto Tallebudgera Creek Road, park at Martin Shiel Park and walk across the footbridge to the eastern side of the Creek.
Morning tea and meeting will be held in the Martin Shiel Park on the western side of the Creek.
June 9: Chillingham.
July 14: Vallances Road survey site, (Mullumbimby STW)
Vallances Rd turns east from Coolamon Scenic Drive, just north of Mullumbimby. Coolamon Scenic Drive can be accessed from Billinudgel by turning south (take Brunswick Valley Way, not the Freeway), or from Mullumbimby by driving through the town and turning north. At Vallances Rd., drive to the end of the sealed road and park at the Sewage Treatment Works compound.
Note: there are no public toilets available; mosquitoes could be a problem.
August 11: Carool Road, Carool

Gum boots and insect repellent recommended. Approx. 30 minutes driving time from Murwillumbah.
October 4 – 7: BirdLife Northern NSW Campout, Bingara. Bingara is surrounded by great birding areas, mainly of grassy woodland. The small country town has a good range of accommodation, including free riverside camping. There will be a choice of outings during the day, and a sociable dinner for participants at the historic, and refurbished, Roxy Cafe on the Saturday night. Bingara is a convenient destination for all birders in Northern NSW and Southern Queensland, and all are welcome. Full details, and a registration form, are available from:

November 4 – 9: Tweed River Festival ‘Celebrating Birds of the Tweed’. See Tweed Council website for program.
November 10: Couchy Creek Nature Reserve, via Chillingham. PARKING SPACE IN THE NATURE RESERVE IS VERY LIMITED; we will park opposite the Chillingham Public Hall and carpool into a maximum of 5 cars to go on to the Nature Reserve, which is accessed from Couchy Creek Rd which forms the western boundary of the NR. We will walk along this road and return to Chillingham for morning tea/meeting in the small park at the end of the Bean Tree Walk. Chillingham is approximately 25 mins drive west from Murwillumbah.

December 8: Booyong Nature Reserve, followed by Christmas morning tea Travel to Bangalow and take the Bangalow Rd towards Clunes and Lismore. Take Stewarts Rd, which will be the second on your left after crossing the Wilson River. When Stewarts Rd intersects with Booyong Rd., turn left and the Nature Reserve will be obvious after approx. 3km.
