TBO members work closely with other members of nearby bird groups. As many of our members are also members of Brunswick Valley bird groups we have included information about Bird Groups in the Far North Coast
There are three bird groups in the area;
- The Byron Bird Buddies (BBB) which is Byron Shire focused and is involved in bird conservation, education and monitoring, (established in 2004 as Belongil Bird Buddies and changed name in 2007).
- Brunswick Valley Bird Watchers members travel over all Northern Rivers Region bird watching at different sites, every two weeks. It is a loose informal unincorporated group established in the early 90’s. At the end of each survey it is decided where the next survey will be. Often it’s an all day affair so everyone always brings their own morning tea and lunch (except if otherwise stated). Some members of the BBB are also members of this group. As the group is unincorporated it takes no responsibility for your attendance during outings.
- Tweed Bird Observers – is an incorporated bird watching group in the Tweed and operates in a similar manner to BVBW but with formal meetings. Members of the other two groups are also members of this group.
BANN – Birds Australia Northern NSW Branch – is self explanatory. Birds Australia headquarters is based in Melbourne and BANN is currently based on the Northern Tablelands. BANN activities include an annual meeting and some bird-watching events. Membership of Birds Australia is required.
